Technology and Lifestyle combined

The road to business success is one that can be lonely and dreary. The unrelenting passion of entrepreneurs and startup CEOs, while initially beneficial for the organization, can soon become a deterrent to the growth of the business and even its people. And with their current knowledge and skillset, it is inevitable for any startup entrepreneur to seek help in developing and running the business.

According to the world’s leading executive coach and best-selling author, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, the organizational dysfunction starts when the leader makes all the decisions and everyone else merely accepts them. As much as it is not enabling and maximizing the full potential of the employees, it is also extremely taxing on the top honcho. But that shouldn’t be the case, according to Dr. Goldsmith.

Having trained a number of corporate leaders across the globe, Dr. Goldsmith believes there are certain leadership principles that entrepreneurial leaders and start-up CEOs must adopt for self-improvement and re-assessment towards creating a positive impact on an organization.

1)      Develop an exit strategy. “It is a good exercise to take and think of what you would want to achieve before you exit,” said Dr. Goldsmith. Drawing small and big finish lines helps diffuse the pressure of success, especially for startup businesses. By celebrating both small and milestone wins, it motivates the individual to continue to reach for the bigger goal without just banking on the big one.

2)      Be a great client. “30 years ago, no CEO would have admitted wanting or needing to be coached. Coaching has come out of the closet and is something that people are no longer ashamed of,” said Dr. Goldsmith. It is important to understand that through coaching, entrepreneurial leaders are receiving mentoring which is hard to come by in the nature of the business. In the process, they are also creating a learning environment for themselves and their people.

3)      Don’t get lost in logic. “A lot of your suggestions are going to become orders even if you didn’t want them to. I really have to caution people about saying ‘have you thought of this?’ or ‘have you tried that?’ because once you start saying that, they just salute the flag and do it your way,” said. Dr. Goldsmith. He added that success is now defined as how much you can empower others and not how much you can do yourself.

4)      I know less than you do. Most startup businesses are created with intense passion from its founders – knowing the ins and outs of the business more than anyone else. However, as the business starts to grow, the game also changes as more people are hired who know more how to navigate the business landscape. When someone knows more than you do, it’s OK – that’s what the organization is for, it is about being able to lean on each other and working towards the same goals. “You can’t tell a knowledge worker what to do, you have to ask them what to do,” said Dr. Goldsmith.

Dr. Marshall Goldsmith will headline a two-city CEO, HR, and Senior Leaders conference in Asia this October, with Manila as his last stop on October 26, 2018. He will be joined by top coaching gun Dr. Peter Chee, and master trainer and chief coach Serely Alcaraz. The leadership conference is organized by ITD, the global leadership development expert. For more information and registration, call ITD World Philippines at +632 887 7428 or email at itdmanila@itdworld.com.

"It takes a village to raise a child, a team to build a dream and a community to foster financial literacy."

Financial literacy can be defined as the convergence of financial, credit and debt management. It is the knowledge that is necessary to make financially responsible decisions – decisions that are integral to our everyday lives.

In today's world with all the uncertainty, financially literate people are those that see money as a means to an end and freedom.

But how do we really start the road toward financial literacy? I am pretty sure, all of us would want to understand better about the word because, at the end of the day, our goal is to manage our finances properly not just for our future but for the future of the people that matters to us.

Glad to have been part of the Sun Life community the past year. I don't have an account under their company but I am one of the bloggers who support their cause and their services. In return, Sun Life recognizes the effort and influence we are giving the community by providing us with workshops and events to help our blogging journey and one of that is the Sinag Awards.

This 2018, SINAG Awards is back on its fifth year. The #SINAG Financial Literacy Digital Journalism Awards celebrates bloggers and digital influencers who are helping and inspiring Filipinos to be financially responsible for a brighter future.

Many of us have the impression that storing our foods in the refrigerator will keep them fresh and safe. But, not having your appliance set at the right temperature can create a breeding ground for harmful bacteria to grow and flourish, which can result in an unsafe environment for food storage for you and your kids.

Improper food storage and sanitation can lead to a high risk of foodborne illnesses, especially this rainy season. Among these diseases is listeriosis, a serious infection caused by eating food with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeriosis can be dangerous to pregnant women, newborns, children, and elderly, and can result to fever, muscle aches, or even gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea.

As such, refrigerating a food contaminated with Listeria can cause it to spread to other food products inside the refrigerator that may be making your child prone to sickness.

The good news, however, is that there are various ways we can do to reduce the risk of listeriosis at home by raising an awareness on proper refrigerator care to help improve the quality of food that you and your kids eat.

Consume Use-By Date food products immediately

Use-by date refers to the final day by which perishable goods should be consumed. After the recommended date, food quality is likely to go down and the food safety is lessened.

Therefore, it is important to make sure that food products are eaten before their use by date and not after.

You may realize that use-by date products spoil easily. Thus, it is crucial for you to follow storage instructions. However, take note that you should follow the use by dates on unopened ready-to-eat food products and not storing food packages after they have been opened. Storing opened food products in the refrigerator can increase the risk of Listeria to grow.

Clean your refrigerator regularly

It is important to wipe food spills immediately to keep Listeria from growing and spreading to other foods. You can clean the inside walls and shelves with hot water and a mild liquid dishwashing detergent then rinse it thoroughly.

Likewise, make sure to throw old and spoiled foods that may cause growth and spread of bacteria. Try moving older foods in the front part of your fridge to make it more visible so that it can be consumed before it gets spoiled.

Keep raw meat, poultry, or fish, which may contains several bacteria, from cooked meals. Also, make sure that raw meats are at the bottom part of the shelf to avoid it from dripping. However, it is still better to have them sealed in a tight container.

Properly sanitizing your refrigerator can avoid different types of bacteria like Coliforms, Vibrio, salmonella, e-coli, Botulinum, and Pseudomonas—all of which harmful to the human health—from growing on foods such as raw meat, milk, fish, and more.

Keep your refrigerator at the right temperature

Having your refrigerator at the proper temperature can avoid or slow the growth of Listeria. To check if your refrigerator is at the right temperature, put an appliance thermometer inside and make the necessary adjustment in the temperature control. Makes sure that your refrigerator register at 40°F (4°C) or below and your freezer at 0°F (-18°C).

Refrigerating below the recommended 4℃ will significantly slow the growth of bacteria. But as the temperature rises, the bacteria can grow at a faster rate, which can result to spoilage, wastage, and food poisoning.

Your refrigerator plays an important role in keeping your food safe and free from any bacteria that can result to foodborne illnesses. In fact, operating at the wrong temperature can leave room for the bacteria to get the nutrients and temperature it need to grow inside your refrigerator.

While refrigerators can be a breeding ground for foodborne illnesses, Beko Refrigerator’s Active Ioniser neutralises the bacteria that cause effluvia to create an antibacterial effect to keep the refrigerator from harmful pathogens such as Listeria. Also, Its Blue Light Technology allows for a continued process of photosynthesis, allowing fresh produce to maintain their natural flavors and nutritional value for up to 30 days.

On top of that, the Beko Refrigerator’s new age of NeoFrost Technology keeps the humidity of their refrigerator at an optimum level of up to 90 percent in the cooler for longer freshness. It also makes for a more stable and faster cooling for both the cooler and the freezer compartments at A+ energy efficiency level. Moreover, its independent cooling systems also helps in preventing odor transfer in between the compartments to keep the quality of the air inside at maximum levels.

Amongst all the cities in Metro Manila, Quezon City is not only the biggest in terms of land area, but also has the most wide spaces for comfortable living. While high-rise condominiums have begun to sprout in Quezon City, homes in residential communities are still the top choice.
Among these communities is a quaint and upscale residential enclave that continues to lord over the rest as the most desired address in Quezon City: Capitol Hills
Perched in one of Quezon City’s highest elevations, Capitol Hills boasts of greeneries and breathtaking views. Posh villages like the Ayala Heights, and the neighboring La Vista and Loyola Grand Villas in Katipunan make this side of Quezon City as the most-sought-after address.

Capitol Hills has its own gold course and country club, and is also the home of the famous Celebrity Sports Plaza.
Rising in one of the prime areas in Capitol Hills is Larossa, a low-density mid-rise residential development within a spacious 3.6 hectare property.
Developed by PRIMEHOMES, Larossa is a perfect haven for people who want to have a feel of tranquility while remaining accessible to centers of trade and commerce. About a five minute drive is the UP Town Center, which houses many shops, restaurants and movie houses. For those who want a quiet meal but want to avoid the usual maddening traffic, there’s an array of dining places to be found at Greenstreet which overlooks the golf course and a stunning view of Metro Manila. Then there are schools within the area which are top of mind like the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila and Miriam College. It is also very near hospitals, churches, banks and convenience stores- yet maintains its safe distance from all the city noise.
And for those who want to simply bask in the beauty of nature, Larossa enhances Capitol Hills’ numerous wonders by giving residents all the space they require to bike, walk or jog- or simply escape from hectic living.

Gone are the days when the "male chauvinist" society had women as far inferior as men—very dependent and submissive to whatever the latter commanded. Women today are not just regarded as homemakers, but nation-builders as well. Beyond the confines of their houses, they, too, can make a big difference––be it in the economic, social or political arena.

From being a household queen to boardroom’s rockstar, women run on very hectic and active schedules everyday. So imagine the strength they have to withstand the daily grinds, not to mention the stress and pressure they have to endure just to fulfill the duties bestowed upon them.

Nevertheless, they’re no “Wonder Woman” at all, nor our very own heroine “Darna” so as not to feel exhausted and tired from chores or work. They’re also humans, who need to pause for a break from being the jack-of-all-trades.

This March—declared as International Women’s Month—is the best time to celebrate their power and influence with the gift of beauty and wellness that they truly deserve. What a better way to have it than a rosy, bouncy and shiny hair to begin with.

Because it is the mane that a person is mainly looked upon, it’s a conscious effort for everyone, especially women, to make it pleasant to gaze at. So a regular bottled shampoo and conditioner, plus treatment are, more often than not, the solutions to turn to, regardless of the bad effects they may cause.

Some of the harmful chemicals they contain are too much to handle, especially by as fragile as a hair follicle. Their main damage being mane breakage is hard to manage. Tricky it is to treat the resulting tress that’s less weak and elastic. Though negligible, other repercussions—allergic reaction and scalp irritation—also need keen attention and urgent solution.

Where else do women usually turn to for remedy than a beauty salon. After a pampering sesh, they may opt to avail any of their formulated solution for upkeep. For optimum results, it’s best to combine it with NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack to promote robust locks and scalp.

NOVUHAIR is the only tress growth product in the market containing 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients working synergistically to help remedy mane problems from growth to vanishing. It deeply penetrates to help rejuvenate, nourish, maintain moisture in the scalp and hair, and improve the overall appearance of the tress. Lastly, it’s an effective and safe solution to arrest hair loss.

So come and celebrate womanhood at your favorite salon anytime this month. Much better if you can make it regularly to bond with your sisters or amigas over a hair spa or treatment. After all, your crowning glory deserves a second look.

You are what you eat. You are how you balance being healthy and enjoying life. So stop making excuses and start making moments!

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is now happening in the Philippines, January 9, 2018.

The Traslación of the Black Nazarene makes its way along the streets of Quiapo, with attendees reaching up to 12 million. In recent years a persistent misconception has the Traslación being repeatedly referred to as mostly the "Feast of the Black Nazarene" and sometimes the "Feast of Quiapo," which despite from the chaotic yet festive atmosphere are far from correct: the Black Nazarene's liturgical feast day is on Good Friday (the second day of the year on which the image is processed). Quiapo Church’s official, parochial feast day is on June 24 (concurrent with Manila Day), the birthday of its titular, John the Baptist.

As per custom, the Black Nazarene leaves the Minor Basilica a day or two before the annual procession, either in a public fashion or clandestinely. Since 2016, the procession begins at around 05:30 AM after a solemn Midnight Mass at the Quirino Grandstand, followed hours later by Morning Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. It ends in Quiapo in the late night of the same day or early the following morning, depending on how long the image has traveled. Some participants choose to wait for the image inside the Minor Basilica to greet it, while most devotees walk throughout the whole processional route. All devotees wear maroon and yellow like the image, and they walk barefoot as a form of penance and in emulation of Christ's walk to Golgotha. Authorities estimate that over 500,000 devotees strode barefoot in the 2013 procession, which was attended by 9 million people.Attendees include families of devotees, tourists, and members of devotees' associations throughout the country and overseas, all carrying their long estandartes (religious gonfalon) usually colored maroon or white and embroidered in gold and emblazoned with the image and the association name.

Not only the ordinary people are joining this tradition every year but also the celebrities who have been devotees of the Nazareno like Coco Martin, Angeline Quinto, Bayani Agbayani, Nolie de Castro and Christopher de Leon.
