From traditional whisked preparations to modern, inventive desserts and beverages, the festival offers an exciting exploration of matcha in all its forms. More importantly, it reinforces SM Supermalls’ vision of malls as more than shopping destinations, but as spaces for discovery, connection, and shared experiences.

As a gift to the growing matcha-loving community, SM Supermalls levels up the celebration with a festival packed with even more matcha goodness. Every detail—from participating brands to interactive activities—is carefully curated to create a welcoming space for longtime connoisseurs and curious first-timers alike.

A Month-Long Matcha Treat at SM CDO Downtown (5th Level | February 6–28)
Matcha lovers in Cagayan de Oro can enjoy an extended celebration at SM CDO Downtown, where local tenants and cafés serve up matcha delights almost the entire month of February. Expect matcha-inspired sweet beverages, leche flans drizzled with matcha sauce, and other unique desserts that showcase the creativity of local food artisans.

SM Supermalls, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), has officially launched Digital Corners inside SM Job Fairs—an initiative unveiled during the J.O.B.S. Immersion for SHS 2025 program held at the Skydome of SM City North EDSA. This milestone represents a significant step forward in equipping young Filipinos, especially Senior High School (SHS) learners, with the digital competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven job market.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda and SM Supermalls Vice President for Mall Operations Junias Eusebio formalized the partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), reaffirming their shared commitment by signing the Pledge of Commitment Wall. This symbolic gesture highlights both institutions’ united mission: to open real-world opportunities that help young Filipinos become future-ready.

Digital Corners: Free, Accessible Digital Upskilling for All

Designed as an innovative and open-access learning hub, the Digital Corner transforms traditional job fairs into job-and-learning fairs, offering visitors a chance not only to seek employment but also to develop in-demand digital skills. These stations provide free training on a range of digital competencies, including basic digital literacy, Python programming, Google Career Certificates, coding fundamentals, basic networking, cybersecurity awareness, and online entrepreneurship.

“This is the next step in our collective efforts to not only match jobs with job seekers but to equip them with future-ready digital skills,” said Junias M. Eusebio, Vice President for Mall Operations, SM Supermalls. “By housing this initiative in SM malls, we’re creating spaces where opportunity and capability meet—helping ensure Filipinos are not only employable but competitive.”

The Digital Corner is expected to benefit thousands of job seekers and students annually, serving as a bridge for SHS graduates preparing to enter the workforce or pursue specialized training in tech-enabled industries.

Digital Empowerment Starts With SHS Students

Nearly 1,000 SHS students from more than 40 schools, together with their parents and teachers, attended the J.O.B.S. Immersion for SHS 2025 launch. The event marks the rollout of the Enhanced Work Immersion Pilot (EWIP), a collaboration between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC). As a key industry partner and host venue, SM Supermalls—along with SM Retail—is helping strengthen the connection between academic learning and real workplace experience.

Throughout the launch, the Skydome buzzed with energy as students explored interactive booths from DICT and private sector partners. These booths showcased possible career paths, entry-level opportunities, and digital upskilling programs. The event also featured career readiness talks, industry mentorship, and a Digital Economy Showcase that allowed students to gain firsthand exposure to future jobs.

Industry leaders such as SM Retail Vice President for Human Resources Maria Teresa P. Portillo, Newport World Resorts Marketing and Administrative Head Mark Ross Rubio, and DOST-ICT Office Deputy Executive Director Beatrice Quimson shared professional insights, workplace expectations, and career-building advice, providing valuable guidance for students preparing for immersion.

The EWIP’s expanded immersion structure increases student training from the existing 80–320 hours to 420–640 hours, ensuring deeper, more meaningful engagement with real-world work environments. With industry partners co-developing training plans, SHS students can align their academic knowledge with practical skills relevant to fields such as retail, hospitality, and technology.

SM Malls: The Future of Opportunity Centers

As SM Supermalls celebrates 40 Super Years of Evolving With Every You, the company continues to affirm its role as a catalyst for nation-building. With 88 malls nationwide, SM has long served as a bridge between job seekers and employers through easy-access job fairs and partnerships that support workforce development.

More than just spaces for shopping, SM malls have become platforms for empowerment, enabling Filipinos to access livelihood opportunities, industry training, and now, digital upskilling. By integrating Digital Corners into its job fairs, SM Supermalls strengthens its commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth, supporting youth development, and shaping a workforce prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.
As climate change continues to intensify weather patterns across the Philippines, the need for proactive and community-centered disaster mitigation has never been more urgent. Heavier rainfall, more frequent flooding, and unpredictable weather events place increasing pressure on local infrastructure, making resilience a shared responsibility. In response, SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime) continues to expand its climate-adaptive initiatives, with SM City La Union becoming the latest mall to integrate a rainwater catchment system into its development.

Now the 30th mall under SM Prime to feature such facility, SM City La Union strengthens the company’s growing network of climate-resilient infrastructure nationwide. Designed to manage stormwater efficiently, SM’s catchment systems are engineered to collect, store, and control the release of large volumes of rainwater during heavy downpours. Instead of allowing stormwater to rush directly into drainage systems—where it could contribute to overflow and localized flooding—these catchment areas provide temporary holding space. Water is retained underground and gradually discharged through proper channels once public drainage networks can safely accommodate the flow.

This deliberate and engineered delay is a crucial buffer in flood-prone regions, especially in areas where communities and businesses coexist closely with natural waterways. SM City La Union’s catchment facility demonstrates how commercial developments can support local flood mitigation efforts by augmenting public systems and reducing the strain on municipal drainage. With a total storage capacity of 760 cubic meters, the facility is built to respond to intense rainfall events, helping protect surrounding neighborhoods and enabling safer mall operations during storms.

Beyond flood mitigation, SM Prime’s approach to water management embraces a broader vision of sustainability. The company recognizes that every drop of water conserved, stored, or reused contributes to a stronger future for communities and the environment. Through its “Water for Tomorrow” strategy, SM focuses not only on capturing stormwater but also on treating and repurposing water as a supplemental resource. This significantly reduces dependence on freshwater sources, which are increasingly stressed by population growth and environmental change.

In 2024, SM Prime recorded a 26.23% increase in recycled water volume, rising from 4.42 million cubic meters in 2023 to 5.59 million cubic meters. This milestone reflects the company’s continuing efforts to innovate and invest in sustainable systems that lessen environmental impact while securing long-term operational resilience.

Equally important to these physical systems is the work of SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls. The group actively promotes awareness on water conservation, responsible consumption, and everyday sustainable practices. Through advocacy campaigns, educational programs, and partnerships with local organizations, SM Cares empowers communities to take part in protecting water resources and building resilience from the ground up.

“Our rainwater catchment systems go beyond flood control — they help create safer spaces for our communities. We hope to show how climate-smart infrastructure and innovation can protect lives, livelihoods, and progress,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan. His statement underscores SM Prime’s commitment to ensuring that sustainability is embedded not just in design and engineering, but also in the lived experience of every community the company serves.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and SM Supermalls have formally renewed their partnership for voter registration and mall voting in preparation for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections. The renewed agreement was sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on December 2 at the COMELEC Office in Intramuros, Manila, further strengthening both institutions’ commitment to providing accessible, secure, and convenient voter services for Filipinos nationwide.

The MOA signing ceremony was attended by COMELEC Chairman George Garcia, Commissioner Rey E. Bulay, key COMELEC officials, and SM Supermalls executives led by Vice President for Mall Operations Junias Eusebio and Assistant Vice President Royston Cabunag. The event highlighted the continued collaboration between the public and private sectors to enhance democratic participation through innovative approaches that meet the evolving needs of voters across the country.

In his remarks, SM Supermalls VP for Mall Operations, Mr. Junias Eusebio, noted the remarkable growth of the partnership since its inception. He recalled that during the 2023 BSKE, only six SM malls participated in the Mall Voting Program, while in the 2025 National and Local Elections, 20 malls successfully hosted voter registration and voting activities. Looking ahead, 23 SM malls are already scheduled to serve as voter registration sites, with additional locations expected to be added up to May 2026. He also highlighted the success of the special registration held in August 2025, when 47 sites nationwide were opened to voters, enabling over 2.8 million Filipinos to register in just 10 days.

“These numbers are a testament not only to the steady expansion of the program but also to the public’s strong preference for safe, organized, and accessible venues where they can exercise their right to vote,” Mr. Eusebio emphasized. “The partnership between COMELEC and SM Supermalls shows that when the public and private sectors work hand in hand, we can modernize the voting experience and empower citizens to participate fully in the democratic process.”

COMELEC officials expressed their appreciation for SM Supermalls’ ongoing support, noting the tangible benefits of mall-based voter services. These venues provide senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant voters, and first-time youth voters with comfortable, well-lit, and highly accessible locations to register and vote. The initiative aligns with COMELEC’s broader goal of enhancing voter accessibility and participation, particularly during the early stages of the electoral cycle, as evidenced by the high registration turnout in recent months.

Through this renewed agreement, selected SM malls nationwide will continue to serve as voter registration centers and Mall Voting sites, contributing to increased voter turnout and an overall improved election experience for communities. The partnership underscores a shared mission: bringing essential voter services closer to the public while encouraging every Filipino to actively engage in the country’s democratic processes.

The MOA signing marks another milestone in the longstanding collaboration between COMELEC and SM Supermalls, demonstrating how innovation, accessibility, and civic responsibility can intersect. Representatives from both organizations posed for a ceremonial photo following the signing, symbolizing their continued dedication to modernizing voter services and fostering inclusive participation for all Filipino citizens.
